Classes/Subjects

*Drama:  Incudes voice production, acting, mime, improvisation, script work, camera/film and stage acting. General classes are strutured to include group work and team building. This is done through drama games and improvisation with the emphasis being on fun. Those wishing to take drama further may want to take LAMDA examinations. Pupils may take grades in Acting, Verse & Prose, Improvisation and Public Speaking. These may be taken as a solo, due or group.

*Pointe Study: Pupils study pointe work as part of classical ballet. Only those pupils that have the required all over physical strength and technique, can study pointe.

*Ballet: Classical, Modern, Character, Mime, Pas De Deux & Pointe Study. Ballet for pleasure, ballet for the more serious-minded. This classical style of expressive movement has something to offer for everyone. Ballet dates back to the 17th century. The conventional steps, grace and fluidity of movement are still found in ballet today. Choregraphers have been influenced by composers through the ages. Ballet has a technique which is the foundation of all dance styles.
Classes are structured from Baby Ballet, Preparatory and Primary, from Grade 1 throught to grade 6. Children from the age of 3yrs - 8yrs may take part in the Rosette Awards which are fun as they perform two dances. The teacher is able to join them during the test, so it is just like taking a class.
Those students who are thinking of a career in dance will go on to study the Intermediate, Advanced 1 and advanced 2 Performers syllabi.

*Modern Jazz: Incorporates funky jazz, character, contemporary, lyrical, musical theatre & stage dance. You will learn to develop many different movements reaching to a broad chioce of varying rhythms and musical styles. Classes are structured to begin to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of any musical genre, one minute you may be dancing to the rhythm of a drum, the next to a funky jazz style. You may explore contrast between expansion and relaxation or learn to isolate in a slick stylish mood, whatever the atmosphere of the class, it will be a wonderful opportunity to react and interact with other members of your class and really dance to express your feelings.
Classes are structured from Preparatory, Primary and Grade 1 through to grade 5. Children from the age of 5yrs - 8yrs may take part in the Rosette Awards which are fun as they perform two dances. The teacher is able to join them during the test, so it is just like taking a class.
Those wishing to persue dance as career will go on to study Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 Performers. Pupils can also take Jazz medals from Bronze upward. These are purly dance performance based.

*Tap:  You will discover and learn many great rhythms from the set IDTA Syllabus through to American jazz tap & musical show style. Tap is as popular as it was in the heyday of the great Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly musicals. Evergreen shows, 42nd Street and Crazy For You, and the more recent Stomp & Tap Dogs highlight the great diversities of style and music in tapping.
Classes are structured from Baby Tap, Preparatory and primary. Grade 1 through to Grade 5. Children from the age of 4yrs - 8yrs may take part in the Rosette Awards which are fun as they perform two dances. The teacher is able to join them during the test, so it is just like taking a class.
Those pupils wishing to persue dance as a career will study Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 Performers. Students can also take Tap Medals. These are purly performance based.

*Hip Hop/Street Dance: Commercial Jazz (style). Have you ever seen the hottest pop band's music video or performance on Top of the pops? Then you will already know what Streetdance looks like. Streetdance takes any form of popular music from pop to hip hop and choreographs routines to the beats. We have seen that, only too often, the most successful pop acts have made it big by combining Streetdance with their tunes and lyrics.
Pupils work towards taking medals from Bronze through to International Awards. These may be taken as a solo, Pair, Trio or Team.

*Freestyle Disco: is modern, funky and energetic. From the moment John Travolta stepped onto the dance floor in the 1970's in the film 'Saturday Night Fever', everyone's been joining in the fun. Freestyle Disco has no present sequence of moves, it just depends where the music takes you. It's self - expressive, diverse and a dance for all ages. (Danced to modern chart music).
Pupils work towards medals from Bronze through to International Awards. These may be taken as a solo, pair, trio or team. Younger pupils take part in the Rosette Awards which are fun for them, as their teacher is able to join them during the test, so it is just like taking a class.

*Non-Syllabus Jazz:  This is not a syllabus based class. Students are taught a wider variety of jazz styles from contemporary, musical theatre, abstract to funky styles. In today's dancing world performers need to adapt to the changing styles of modern jazz dance. Taking part in this class will allow the dancer to explore a wider range of jazz and be able to develop their own feeling and personality within this wonderful dance genre. Students need to be taking Grade 3 Modern Jazz or above to take this class.

*Musical Theatre: *Singing:(This class incorporates all three disciplines of Dance, Drama & Singing  (known as the triple threat), to produce a west end/broadway musical style. Group examinations can be taken in this subject from Introductory Level through to Level 5. Those wishing to become a professional performer can study at a higher level. 
This most exciting performance subject encompasses the wide spectrum of productions that are Musical Theatre. Shows like Grease, My Fair Lady, Bombay Dreams, The Lion King, Annie, Oliver etc, all diverse styles but all embraced by the many dance styles offered at Masque. Theatrical performance is achieved by preparing the body physically through exercises and stimulating artistic ability through dance movement, improvisation and interpretation of music. The use of hand props, make up and much more - it provides all the 'must have' qualities for those wishing to perform in local amateur dramatics or go onto become a professional performer. This class compliments all dance styles.
 

*Rock 'n' Roll: Traditional 50's style, including Lindy, Jive & International style. Rock n Roll is the dance of the 50's. At break neck tempo the men and women kick, step, kick, step. He then flings her left and right, slides her through his legs, whips her up onto his right hip then his left hip.
Pupils start off learning the basic in place with simple turns, then progress up to performing figures such as throw away and the slide and advanced lift work. Pupils may take medal tests in this subject ranging from Bronze through to International Awards.
